A summer to remember

/

Keep safety in mind during your summer adventures

Summer vacation is a staple for many families and can make it a summer to remember. Vacations typically range from spending time at local attractions to traveling to distant lands. Activities may include camping, hiking, family reunions, theme parks or simply hosting backyard barbecues and pool parties, not to mention whatever adventures you find along the way.

However, this year may be a little different. COVID-19 challenges and restrictions are likely to affect how you spend your summer. Whatever your plans are, please keep your safety and health in mind.

There are far too many summer activities to list all of them with their necessary safety and health precautions, but one topic of particular concern this year is travel. Whether you stay local or have worldwide destinations in mind, traveling may be a challenge this summer.

Air travel may be affected by current events and road travel is always challenging, even without added health concerns. No matter how near or far, your travel plans should include plenty of rest before your adventure starts.

Driving drowsy is as dangerous as driving drunk. Please do not do it. On that note, be sure to check ahead for roadside lodging and services as they may not be as accessible or available as normal. Your favorite restaurants may not be open or may have limited capacity, so be sure to have plenty of food and water for your journey.

Your vacation plans may include popular destinations, so be prepared for public health restrictions. Retail or entertainment establishments may have social distancing occupancy limitations and may require face coverings. Whenever possible, call ahead to determine if there are any restrictions so that you can arrive prepared: Know before you go.

This will be a summer to remember. The question is, what will you remember the most? Don’t let injury or illness take any part in your summer plans. Be prepared, be safe, and do your best to enjoy summer 2020—even if you do it wearing a mask!
